Safety Village Iowa City/Coralville, Inc.
Due
to area flooding, the Safety Village board of directors delayed and then cancelled
its 2008 Safety Village Summer Camp, originally scheduled for June 16-27.
For
those families that had a child registered in the 2008 session,
there are several announcements:
-
For children who are age seven and entering first grade, the age
limit will be extended for the summer 2009 camp.
This age extension only applies to students who were enrolled for
the 2008 camp.
-
Refund checks are currently being processed. The full refund amount,
for those who had not yet picked
up the Safety Village t-shirt or who return it, will be $66. If
families choose to keep the t-shirt, the refund amount will be $60.
-
Safety Village t-shirts can be returned to the Community Relations
Department of Mercy Hospital, 500 East Market Street, Iowa City.
In order to receive the t-shirt refund, the shirt must be returned
by the end of the day on Monday, July 21. Questions can be directed
to Kathy Townsend at 319-339-3658.
“We
thank all our families for their patience and are very sorry that we could not
provide camp this summer,” said Ann Berry, Camp Director.
Safety
Village registration forms are distributed every spring and can be requested
by calling Mercy’s Community Relations Department at 319-339-3658.
Safety Village is a two-week
summer safety camp where children learn about safety in a hands-on way. A child-size
"village," complete with buildings, streets, traffic lights, and pedal-driven
cars, provides a setting where children can prepare and practice real-life situations.
Safety Village is staffed by a certified director, paid staff, and community volunteers,
with participants organized into small groups for plenty of individual attention.
Safety Village is located at Grant Wood Elementary School, 1930 Lakeside Drive,
Iowa City. Enrollment is limited to children ages 5, 6, and 7. Registration
fee is $66 per child.
