Child Safety Seat Checks

Drive-through checkpoints are conducted by certified safety seat technicians and give parents the chance to see whether they are using their child safety seats appropriately, to ensure their children's seats are in good condition and not have been recalled, and to show them how to properly fit car seats for their cars and children.

The numbers of people using car seats incorrectly-and therefore dangerously-is quite high. In fact, previous car seat checks have found that 90 to 100 percent of participants are using their car seats incorrectly. That is, the seats may not be belted in at all or belted incorrectly, may be facing the wrong way, may be the wrong size for the child, or may be in the wrong seat in the car.
