diabetes educator Sue Szczech, RN, CDE, and a Mercy dietitian will
offer a class on pre-diabetes four times per year. Upcoming

May 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the McAuley Room, lower level,

August 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the McAuley Room, lower
level, Mercy Medical Plaza

November 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the McAuley Room, lower
level, Mercy Medical Plaza
The class is intended for people with fasting blood sugars between
100 and 125, glucose intolerance or impaired fasting glucose. The
goal is to help at-risk individuals reverse habits that may be leading
toward a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and its many complications.
Topics will include metabolic syndrome, exercise, diet, exercise,
and diabetes prevention. Class fee is $25.
Approximately
54 million people in the U.S. have pre-diabetes and many are not
aware of it. Recent research shows that some long-term damage, especially
to the heart and circulatory system, may already be occurring during
pre-diabetes.
