Services
A variety of
rehab services for people of all ages is available at Mercy through
Progressive Rehabilitation Services, LLC. These services are designed
to help each individual reach his or her own highest level of functioning
and to minimize the effects of disease. Rehabilitation is often
provided in an interdisciplinary way, bringing together staff members
with varying expertise, depending on the patient's needs. It may
be provided at the bedside, on the nursing unit, or in the Rehab
Department. Outside the hospital, Progressive Rehab has
seven outpatient sites in eastern Iowa.
All rehabilitation
services are based on thorough evaluation. Therapies include:
- Physical
therapy - using exercises and modalities to assist patients in
their recovery from injury or disease
- Occupational
therapy - focuses on a patients ability to perform activities
of daily living
- Speech therapy
- addresses patient problems with communication or swallowing
Some treatments
and/or services include:
- Techniques
to alleviate pain and promote healing
- Wound care
- Education
for patient, family, or caregiver
- Equipment
needs assessment and training
- Community
resource referral and follow-up

Rehab offers a program entitled, "Growing Older, with Lifelong
Dignity," or GOLD. The program provides assessment, treatment,
and educational services throughout the continuum of care to our
elderly population. Topics addressed are:
