Cancer Care of Iowa City, LLC
Outpatient chemotherapy, hematology, and educational services are provided in Cancer Care of Iowa City, 613 E. Bloomington, Mercy Medical Plaza II. Oncology specialists in pleasant surroundings provide compassionate care. Cancer Care of Iowa City, LLC, is a collaborative venture between Mercy Hospital and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). Phone: 339-3917.

Radiation therapy is provided at the Iowa City Cancer Treatment Center, located near Mercy Hospital at 601 E. Bloomington Street. Inpatients and outpatients alike are cared for by the professional staff in the Center's relaxed, home-like atmosphere. Educational materials and equipment are available there as well.

Transportation and a nurse escort are provided to and from the center for Mercy inpatients. Phone: 354-8777.

Questions about insurance coverage can be directed to Mercy's Access Services Office, 339-3616. Mercy offers a Financial Assistance Program for those with identified needs that meet specific criteria. For more information or an application, please call Financial Assistance, 339-3907.

Home Care Options
Through Mercy Home Care, nursing and other services can be continued at home after discharge from the hospital. Mercy's staff can assist with many dimensions of care, including:

Hospice Care
Iowa City Hospice offers home care and support to individuals who are in advanced stages of a life-threatening illness. Its services are available to Johnson, Cedar, Iowa, Linn, Louisa, Muscatine, and Washington County residents, with similar programs are offered through various agencies in other southeast Iowa counties. Mercy dietitians provide individual assistance with nutritional assessments, special dietary instructions, and basic nutritional counseling.

Pathology Services
Mercy offers both routine and specialized pathology services for cancer diagnoses. Immunoperoxidase staining is an example of a specialized technique; it is used to identify estrogen receptors in breast cancers.

Fine needle aspiration is also performed by Mercy pathologists on palpable masses-that is, masses located under soft tissue that can be located by touch.

Rehabilitation Services
Physical, occupational and speech therapy are provided through Progressive Rehabilitation Associates, LLC. Enterostomal nursing therapy is also available. Phone 354-2429.

Social Services
Mercy Social Workers are available to assist patients and families with a variety of issues. Services are also available to assist people who are under insured or patients with needs such as food and housing.

Support Group
HOPE Cancer Support Group welcomes people with any type of cancer and their families. The Continuing After Breast Cancer Support Group provides women with mutual support and sharing after breast cancer. Each of these groups has monthly meetings at Mercy Hospital.

Spiritual Support
Mercy chaplains help patients and their families when questions, fears, and concerns may seem overwhelming. Pastoral Care staff members also help with specific religious needs, such as receiving the Catholic sacraments or can arrange for clergy of any faith to visit with patients and family. Resources such as tape recorders, audio tapes, and books are available through Pastoral Care.
