MERCY VP RETURNS FROM ACTIVE DUTY
August 27, 2007/Iowa City, IA: Glen J. Winekauf, Vice President of Marketing and Support Services at Mercy Iowa City, has returned to his role at the hospital after serving 18 months on active duty with the U.S. Army.
A major in the Iowa National Guard, Winekauf was stationed in Gardez and Khowst, Afghanistan, as part of a NATO force from June 2006 to June 2007. Among other duties, he worked with the Afghan National Army to build a medical clinic in Khowst and establish hospital operations in Gardez for the Afghan people.
Winekauf joined the U.S. Army is 1981 and has been a member of the Iowa National Guard since 1984.
In his role at Mercy, Winekauf is responsible for marketing and community relations activities; environmental services including dietary, housekeeping and engineering; and building projects inside and outside the hospital. Prior to his departure, he served on the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce and United Way boards and was a member of the Solon Planning and Zoning Committee.
Winekauf holds a bachelor’s degree in political science (1989) and a master’s degree in health care administration (2000), both from the University of Iowa. He has been at Mercy since 2000.
