celebrates 40th anniversary with million-dollar gift to Mercy
The Mercy Hospital Foundation
Board of Directors approved a special million-dollar gift to Mercy
for the past fiscal year in celebration of the Foundation’s
40th Anniversary.
The gift, actually, $1,094,000,
has gone a long way to support patient care at Mercy Iowa City.
More than half of the
gift was dedicated to the new community hospice unit, Mercy Hospice
Care. The balance was directed to equipment, patient comfort items,
educational materials and programs, art and scholarships.
The Foundation funds
scholarships for high school students entering the health care field
and for Mercy employees seeking a degree in nursing.
The Foundation also marked
its 40th Anniversary by dedicating select art works to each of the
nine members of the original Board of Directors. “It seemed
a fitting way to maintain their presence at Mercy,” said Julie
Johnston, President of the Foundation. “Each holds an important
place in Mercy’s legacy of caring and philanthropy,”
she said.

Mary Alois Kessler, Chuck Dore, Richard Feddersen, Bud Houghton,
David Noonan, Dr. Christian Schrock, W.W. Summerwill and Reverend
